Psalms 127:1-5 (NLT)
1 A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. A psalm of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.
2 It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.
3 Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.
4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.

Things that are most precious to our lives, the building of a residence, our security there, and the loved ones that will fill its rooms with joyful laughter and purpose are not ours to care for on our own. Losing sleep over worrying about them is not necessary when the One who is truly ensuring their production and safety is given deference and trust. The effort required on our part in the securing of these treasures is applied most effectively when complete reliance in all of them is placed squarely on Him. None of this need be in vain and great confidence can be anchored in the hope of the Great Creator’s involvement in those things that require what only He can truly provide.
