Psalms 70
Psalms 70:1-5 (NLT)
1 For the choir director: A psalm of David, asking God to remember him. Please, God, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me.
2 May those who try to kill me be humiliated and put to shame. May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace.
3 Let them be horrified by their shame, for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!”
4 But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!”
5 But as for me, I am poor and needy; please hurry to my aid, O God. You are my helper and my savior; O LORD, do not delay.
There is this wonderful place to run to for those whose hearts are repentant and turning to the source of their salvation. If David had been living in intentional rebellion against God’s heart, he would not have had this place to run to. However, because of confidence from a heart that was right towards God, the size of the earthly opposition might seem ominous, but hope could be found in the One far above any earthly force. The effects of their threats may have seemed imminent, but the prayer could be raised with a clear conscience and faith-enabling declarations of praise.
No matter the size or magnitude of the opposition and no matter how probable their triumph, there is a place to run to in the name of the Lord for the one who has allowed His grace to keep them in a place of confidence towards Him. Living and walking in the Light of His presence and the honor of His Word enables great faith in times of apparent impossibility. Without that confident advance into the tower of refuge in His name, there is little reason for hope. But, how great is the confidence and assurance found on the foundation of His promises and the assurance of His presence. For those whose hearts are filled with righteous identification, the prayer can be raised in confidence to the One whose way has been chosen.
