Psalms 6

Psalms 6:1-10 (NLT)

1 For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by an eight-stringed instrument. O LORD, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage.

2 Have compassion on me, LORD, for I am weak. Heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony.

3 I am sick at heart. How long, O LORD, until you restore me?

4 Return, O LORD, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love.

5 For the dead do not remember you. Who can praise you from the grave?

6 I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears.

7 My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.

8 Go away, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping.

9 The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD will answer my prayer.

10 May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified. May they suddenly turn back in shame.

Even for the man who had experienced the power and deliverance of God working through him, there was a time of feeling overwhelmed with opposition and the sense that he was alone in his circumstance. He had defeated the bear, the lion, and the giant by the power of the God he was in covenant with, but someone became weary with the persistent pressing of his enemies and the wearing down of his own strength. Rather than battling with it himself or religiously attempting to avoid acknowledging it, he declared the condition of his soul, but to the One who could bring resolution to it. His wailing wasn’t just to the wind or the moon, but to his Deliverer. His declarations also did not remain on the observed condition, but , once presented to God, embraced the answer that was his confidence there in Him. His statements also shifted from a position below his adversaries to one that was above and in triumph over them. This change of perspective took place with no shifting of conditions, just the adjustment of declarations.
There is a way provided for us for deliverance from any perception of being overwhelmed. By exposing it fully and its current effects on the soul to the One who is so very far above it, there is an assurance of being lifted above it as the declarations of the soul shift from lamenting defeat to claiming of triumph. As there is way is chosen and allowed to be developed as a strength, it will increase in its effect to transform all walks from impeding perceptions to realized and lived triumphs through the One who has already triumphed over them.
